Treatment of Endometriosis

When determining appropriate treatment of endometriosis, it is necessary to determine what is most important to each patient.  Treatment for improving the pain may be different than treatment for improving fertility.  

Infertility due to endometriosis often is difficult to treat. Many of the medications used to relieve the symptoms of endometriosis may decrease your chances of becoming pregnant.  Your doctor may recommend that you have surgical treatment for your endometriosis.  During this procedure, your doctor may burn away small areas of endometriosis or cut out the areas of endometriosis. Your doctor may also remove scar tissue that might be blocking your pelvic organs or twisting them out of their normal position.  After surgery, you may be able to utilize some fertility medications or treatment regimens that will further increase your chances of a successful pregnancy.
