Egg Donation

If you've struggled to conceive naturally or with other fertility treatments, you still have options.

For many patients, egg donation paired with IVF or surrogacy is the right choice.

Explore how egg donation with Denver Fertility Care in Englewood and Denver, CO, can help you achieve your dreams of parenthood.

What Is Egg Donation?

Egg donation is a method of assisted reproduction in which an egg (oocyte) is obtained from a selected donor. That egg is then fertilized in our state-of-the-art laboratory with sperm from a male patient or a sperm donor. The resulting embryo is then transferred into an intended mother’s or surrogate’s uterus during an in-vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle.

"Like many, my husband and I have embarked on a journey to parenthood filled with uncertainty and challenges, however, we could have not done this without the support of Dr. Ambler and the extended team at Denver Fertility Care. We look forward to continuing our journey with Dr. Ambler and her team. While our journey may look different from others, I would recommend Dr. Ambler over and over again for anyone in Colorado."

Egg Donation and IVF Process

The process will vary slightly depending on if you are using fresh or frozen eggs.
Egg donation is a tried and tested method of assisted reproduction that helps patients struggling to conceive.

Consultation

You will first have a consultation at our Englewood or Denver clinic. Your doctor will discuss your history and review any medical records. They may order tests such as blood work and ultrasounds to determine if IVF using an egg donor is right for you.

Medication

If you are using fresh eggs, you (or your surrogate) will begin a regimen of medications to align menstrual cycles with your egg donor, followed by medications to encourage the development of the uterine lining. If you are using frozen eggs, you or your surrogate will only need medications to prepare the uterus for embryo transfer. You will be monitored via blood tests and ultrasounds to ensure the right medication and hormone levels.

Egg Retrieval

For a fresh egg donation, your egg donor will undergo an egg retrieval procedure. A thin needle is passed through the wall of the vagina, and the eggs are gently extracted from the ovary. If you are using frozen eggs, the eggs will first be thawed in our state-of-the-art lab prior to fertilization.

Fertilization

The egg is fertilized using a patient's sperm or a sperm donor. The fertilized egg is then allowed to mature in our lab. If you wish to have preimplantation genetic screening, this will be performed before embryo transfer.

Embryo Transfer

Once the embryo is matured, the mother or surrogate will return to our clinic for an embryo transfer. This is a practically painless procedure in which a thin catheter is passed through the vagina and cervix, and the embryo is placed directly in the uterus.

Pregnancy

The woman is then monitored for signs of pregnancy. Once a pregnancy is confirmed via blood test, the mother or surrogate will continue care with their OBGYN.

Frequently Asked Questions About Egg Donation

Q. I want to donate my eggs. Can you help?

A. While we hope to be able to facilitate egg donors in the future, we do not currently act as an egg donation agency for those wishing to donate eggs. We partner with trusted donation and surrogacy agencies and cryobanks, and coordinate care for patients wishing to use egg donors as part of IVF or surrogacy.

Q. How much does egg donation in Englewood and Denver cost?

A. The cost of using an egg donor is set by each agency, while we handle the IVF costs. Using an egg donor will increase the total cost of your treatment, but each agency has its own fee schedule. We offer financing to make your IVF treatment more accessible and affordable.
